How do I create a Tableau pdf?
Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public are the two primary developer licenses that Tableau offers. The main difference are in price, connectors, and security. Here’s a walkthrough of each type. Tableau Desktop Price. $70 per Month per seat This is the main product Tableau offers, and when analysts say that use “Tableau”, this is typically what t are talking about. Tableau Desktop is where all your development goes in business settings. In other words, if you are building out visualizations or dashboards for your role in a business, you’ll likely want to go with Tableau Desktop With that being said, Tableau Desktop and Tableau Public both allow you to build visualizations. There are fourmain benefits of using Tableau Desktop vs Tableau Public. Additional Connections. One of the best functionalities of Tableau is its ability to connect to data seamlessly. Tableau can natively connect to all of the major databases, such as MySQL, Amazon Redshift, Postgres, SQL Server, Google BigQuery, and so on. If it’s a commonly used database, Tableau Desktop can likely connect to it. Tableau Desktop can also connect to some of the major 3rd party platforms, such as Salesforce and Google Analytics. Tableau public does not include all of these options. Ability to Save Locally. The other Tableau developer license, Tableau Public, limits your ability to save data locally and must be published online. Tableau Desktop does not have this limitation, which means it can easily and safely be saved locally for data security. It also means you are able to work offline and save it without an internet connection. More Security. Since Tableau Desktop can be saved locally, you have the ability to keep the dashboard in a secure place that is not shown publicly. No surprise, Tableau Public is, well…. public. Integration with Tableau Server and Tableau Online. Two products we won’t be talking about are Tableau Server and Tableau Online. These are the cloud- or server-hosted solutions that allows users to login to a portal to view, interact with, and export the dashboard that you create as a developer. It’s the enterprise level products for Tableau and is great for sharing sensitive work in business. Tableau Public can not publish work onto Tableau Server or Tableau Online, while Tableau Desktop can. Bottom Line. If you have sensitive information, need to connect to data, or work in a business, you almost always want to go with Tableau Desktop. Do note there is a bit of a cost to it, though. Tableau Public Price. Free Tableau Public is a great option for anyone who does not want to spend money on a BI tool but still wants to create some fancy data visualizations. It includes all the functionality that is found within Tableau Desktop with four exceptions. Lack of connectors Tableau Public does not include most data connectors. You can still connect to flat files, such as a csv or an excel doc, and you can connect to google sheets which is a nice options. You cannot connect to databases and major platforms, so if this is a requirement, invest in Tableau Desktop. Must Save Online In Tableau Public, you create an online account to store and share your work. This is because the point of tableau public is to share public work for the community. This means that Tableau Public forces you to save through online publishing. With this, you cannot save locally, which can be a headache if you want to save your work without an internet connection. If you have no internet connection, you literally cannot save your work. No Secure Option to Publishing Any dashboard you publish online will be accessible to view by the entire internet. There are ways you can “hide” your visualization so others cannot easily find it, but the URL itself still exists and does not require any credentials to view. If you have sensitive data, do not use tableau public. No integration with Tableau Server Tableau Public is technically Tableau’s own, public version of tableau server, so you do have the ability to publish your work. But the more robust version of Tableau Server or Tableau Online, where your company can securely store and view dashboards, does not work with Tableau Public. Bottom Line. Tableau Public is the go-to option for anyone who is not looking to spend money on a BI tool and is looking to share their work publicly. It’s great for personal use and comes with almost a full feature set as Tableau Desktop. With that being said, if you’re using Tableau in a business setting, go with Desktop. ———————————- Hope that helps!
